- Can a person under the age of 18 be an author in a scientific article or book? If so, what kind of problems could arise in terms of publishing and ethics?
1. Although the age limit of 18 in the copyright agreement poses a problem in terms of legal capacity, the guardian signs the copyright agreement, but the guardian’s consent is required for approval. However, this is not mandatory.
2. To avoid potential conflicts of interest in the future, a separate letter should be requested for the guardian’s signature or consent.
3. Similarly, if an ethics committee decision is to be made, it would be much more appropriate to include the guardian’s consent in the ethics committee application file.
4. In scientific articles, if the article’s method and content are sound, a person under the age of 18 can be an author without any problems. (The logic is that wisdom comes from the mind, not age.)
5. It will not pose a significant problem in terms of academic merit either.
6. Only when applying for an ORCID number on international portals and systems, if the applicant must be over 18 years of age, this requirement can be met with the guardian’s consent.
7. In books, a copyright agreement, especially for single-author books, must include the guardian’s signature or consent.
2. How can we monitor authors’ writing with Artificial Intelligence in their works, and what are the tips? Can we trust Turnitin’s artificial intelligence scanning report in this regard?
1.There is currently no application that can fully control AI writing. The writing of this program or application is included in our project scope as OJOP Index, and we plan to launch it this year.
2. Especially for works produced by artificial intelligence, the references may be fabricated. You can cross-check whether the sources are correct by scanning the references and checking the DOI number or link, if available. You can check the DOI at https://search.crossref.org/search/referenceslinkinden in the citations or reference list.
3. We recommend that all scientific journals add it to their writing guidelines to link the DOI of the work in in-text citations or to link the doi or work link in the bibliography list. Editors and journals should request that DOI numbers be provided as full links, including the http part.
4. Turnitin AI scanning is not performed for Turkish works. It would be quite ambitious to state that this scan can produce reliable results for English works under current conditions. As of January 14, 2026, it is not possible to rely on the Turnitin AI scan for English works; in fact, we do not recommend sending revisions to the author based solely on this report. Recommendations to the author are based on concrete, physical human review.
5. The use of long dashes within the text, as well as the frequency of modal structures and tenses, can be checked.
6. OJOP Index has recently begun the process of writing an artificial intelligence control application for English and Turkish works. It will be available in our menus as soon as our work is complete.

3. If the editor suspects that the article they are reviewing involves Artificial Intelligence, what do they do? Do they reject it outright, or request revisions?
1. Of course, they should not reject it outright. Because editors act based on evidence and findings, not suspicion.
2. We can suggest the following steps for the editor to take:
The editor can make the following request to the author:
Dear author, your article has been REFERRED TO THE PUBLICATION BOARD due to reasons such as a similarity rate of 0%/1% overall, the entire bibliography being in a foreign language, an excessive number of repetitive patterns, and the inability to access the references cited in the text and bibliography list.
In accordance with our publication principles, articles with a similarity rate of 0% or 1% are referred to the editorial board due to additional file requests and explanations. (In such cases, our journals will need to update their publication principles accordingly.)
Therefore, please send all references related to your article in a compressed PDF file to editor@kentakademisi.com and,
If artificial intelligence was used in your work, please explain where, in which part, and to what extent it was used; if it was not used, please explain why the similarity rate is 0%. If your work is in Turkish, please explain why you did not use any Turkish sources via the relevant email.
Additionally, if the Artificial Intelligence Evaluation Form you add to your journal’s menus is identified by the Editor, field editor, or reviewer, the form filled out by the reviewer is also sent to the author as concrete evidence. It is recommended that the author’s response to these requests be discussed collectively by the Editorial Board.
