The Journal of East Asian Studies (DAAD) aims to disseminate to the scientific community and the public academic research conducted in Turkey in the field of East Asian studies (including the culture, political history, economy, sociology, philosophy, belief systems, foreign policy, security, and nationalities/minorities/ethnic groups issues of China/Japan/Korea/Mongolia/Taiwan/Vietnam/Cambodia/Laos/Myanmar/Thailand/Brunei/Malaysia/Indonesia/Philippines) with an interdisciplinary perspective.
DAAD continues to enrich its experience by creating a space for academic interaction for scholars producing knowledge in the field of East Asian studies in Turkey, sharing their knowledge with experts in the field, and contributing to the development of a new generation of regional experts with broader expertise. Manuscripts submitted to our journal are reviewed by editors specializing in the region and then sent to expert referees, who then undergo a rigorous peer-review process. Scientific studies to be published in DAAD must fill a gap in the field, add to existing knowledge, present new and original information, evaluate or offer a new perspective on previously published studies, and introduce various works and figures. DAAD is an internationally peer-reviewed, scientific journal published twice a year, in the spring and fall semesters, with articles in Turkish, English, and Chinese. It is not affiliated with any political, ideological, or religious group or organization.

Aim and Scope  The Journal of East Asian Studies is published in Türkiye with the aim of disseminating to the scientific world and the public scholarly work conducted in the fields of East Asian and Southeast Asian studies (including the culture, language and literature, political history, economy, sociology, philosophy, foreign policy, security, and ethnic/national issues of China/Japan/Korea/Mongolia/Taiwan/Vietnam/Cambodia/Laos/Burma/Thailand/Brunei/Malaysia/Indonesia/Philippines) with an interdisciplinary perspective. Scientific articles to be published in DAAD are required to fill a gap in the field, add to existing knowledge, present new and original information, evaluate or offer a new perspective on previously published studies, and introduce various works and figures. DAAD is an internationally refereed, scholarly journal published twice a year, in the spring and fall semesters, with articles in Turkish, English, and Chinese. It is not affiliated with any political, ideological, or religious group or organization.

The Journal of East Asian Studies (DAAD) is published twice a year (Spring and Fall) in the social sciences. The journal primarily features interdisciplinary studies exploring various issues in East and Southeast Asia. Articles published in the journal are expected to examine the history, culture, economic life, and political life of the countries and societies in East and Southeast Asia; relations among countries, nations, and ethnic groups, particularly their security and foreign policy; current issues; and visions of civilization from a scholarly perspective. The journal may also publish articles that introduce and evaluate important works and individuals related to East and Southeast Asia, as well as translations deemed significant.

To be eligible for publication in the Journal, articles must not have been published elsewhere or be under consideration for publication. Articles presented at any congress or information festival must include the name, location, and date of the congress or information festival. For studies supported by a research institution or fund, the name of the supporting organization and project number must be provided.

Evaluation of Articles

Articles prepared in accordance with the rules stated below must be uploaded to the Dergipark system and sent for evaluation.

Incoming articles are subjected to a preliminary review by the Editorial Board. During the preliminary review, the article is evaluated for its conformity with the Journal’s publishing principles and policies, its contribution to the field, as well as its subject matter, writing style, and format. Articles deemed suitable in these respects are sent to two referees recognized in their respective fields for scholarly evaluation. No information is sent to the referees regarding the author’s identity, and the names of the reviewers are not disclosed to the authors. If one of the referee reports is positive and the other negative, the article may be sent to a third referee. Articles requested corrections by the referees are returned to the author for necessary changes. Any corrections requested are expected to be made within a specified timeframe. Articles that do not receive at least two positive reports, are resubmitted to the author for correction, and are not corrected within the specified timeframe are notified to the authors and eliminated from publication. Articles that receive a “publishable” rating from two referees are placed in the publication queue. Articles ready for publication are placed in the publication queue. The names of the referees and authors are mutually confidential and will not be disclosed in our journal. Every article that completes the refereeing process successfully will be published. Therefore, authors do not need to call to learn the status of their articles. All processes will be conducted through the Dergipark evaluation system.

The scientific and legal responsibility of the articles belongs to the author.

The journal’s written languages are Turkish, English and Chinese.
